What is EQ?

EQ stands for emotional intelligence. It is blending both the rational and emotional brain to make optimal decisions. EQ is being smarter with feelings. 

The beauty of EQ is that it is not fixed and can be grown with deliberate practice. 

EQ is part of our decision making whether we choose to acknowledge it or not. It is impossible to “take emotions out of it” from a biological perspective. Nor should we want to do that. Our gut instinct is valuable. Emotions are markers for paying attention. 

Understanding our emotions and the signals they are sending sets us up for life satisfaction. Six Seconds, an EQ network, has identified eight different areas of EQ:

  • Emotional Literacy

  • Consequential Thinking

  • Emotion Navigation

  • Intrinsic Motivation

  • Optimism

  • Empathy

  • Noble Goal Pursuit

When you actively work on improving your EQ, you improve your life success factors: effectiveness, relationships, wellbeing and quality of life.
